Wat breng ik mee?

Zo omschrijven anderen mij

I am a researcher specialized in spectroscopy, algae culture and analysis of complex data. In my scientific career I have applied these skills both in application-orientated research (MSc thesis in collaboration with a German company bbe Moldaenke GmbH) as well as in fundamental research (PhD project at the VU University Amsterdam).

Thanks to the multiple courses and trainings as well as through everyday work I have mastered logical and concise communication and solution-orientated thinking. I established a successful collaboration with a foreign company and organized and coordinated international scientific meetings. I am fluent in 3 languages (Polish, English, German) and currently quickly improving on Dutch.

In my working environment I highly value clear goals, precise time planning and a possibility to cooperate with other people along with having independent responsibilities.

Werkervaring

PhD candidate VU University Amsterdam, The Netherlands

PhD project under the frame of Marie Curie Initial Training Network HARVEST funded by the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union.
Significance
A potent growth of algae strongly relies on efficient photosynthesis, therefore in my PhD project I aimed at unraveling the very first process of photosynthesis (excitation energy transfer) in the algal model organism Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.
Scientific Training
My research included culturing of the green algae (incl. mutant strains), whole-cell measurements by means of ultra-fast time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy (streak camera) and modeling of complex data. Other techniques I applied in my work included Atomic Force Microscopy and freeze-fracture Electron Microscopy

Laboratory Worker (Leonardo da Vinci scholarship) by the company bbe Moldaenke GmbH

The aim of my project was to improve a fluorescence-based detection of cyanobacteria in water. Moreover, the experiments designed and performed by me serve additionally as a base for development of a technique to detect cyanotoxins in water.
My initial internship was subsequently extended under the frame of Leonardo Da Vinci scholarship (EC Programme) and resulted in collaboration between bbe Moldaenke GmbH and Jagiellonian University in Cracow. Therefore, eventually the assignment developed into my master's thesis project. In 2009 I presented our work during the 7th International Symposium „Use of Algae for monitoring Rivers“ Luxemburg (oral contribution). Finally, in 2012 we published the results of this project in Hydrobiologia, The International Journal of Aquatic Sciences.
